Rodney Parker has been one of my favorite artists for a while now. Every time the guy puts out a song or an album I think "alright, this will be the one that puts him on the top." How he still isn't one of the bigger names in the Texas music scene baffles me. The guy does nothing but put out consistently great music.

The video here is for his latest single. It has been out a while and saw some decent success on the Texas charts so hopefully there will be more of that to come. The song is "Things You Make Me Do" off of his 2013 album The Apology: Part 2. Enjoy.

Well the weather has warmed up. The grass is getting green. The flowers are starting to bloom. And bands are starting to get robbed... Every year as the temperatures rise so do the number of thefts to band gear. The most recent was a real doozy.

The Austin band Mike & The Moonpies had the van, trailer and every piece of gear they own stolen last weekend after a show at The Rustic in Dallas, TX. Below is a letter from the band along with a list of the gear that was stolen and a link where you can send donations to help the band get back on the road. Keep your eyes open out there folks. This won't be the only story like this you hear this year.

Mike and the Moonpies’ van, cargo trailer and all of our gear were stolen in Dallas on the morning of May 11, 2014 sometime between 1 and 7 am. All totaled, we're looking more than $20,000 in lost property. We're currently accepting donations to help recover some of this tremendous loss so we can keep working and moving forward. Anyone who donates $10 or more will be sent a complimentary download of our album via email. (
Thanks in advance. We're working our hardest to recover and make our upcoming tour dates.

Any news or information regarding the van, gear or trailer please contact or call the Dallas Police Department.

Well it looks like the powers that be over on CMT have managed to find some more room between videos full of pickup trucks and wallet chains for some real country music. Make sure you guys go check out the RRB video for their single "Satellite" on CMT and show the execs at CMT that as rabid loyal Texas country fans we will continue to filter through the other crap as long as they continue to post gems like this one.

One of the things I love is to find a stripped down version of one of my favorite songs. To me, music is at it's best when it's simple. Just a man and a guitar is sometimes all you need to make something truly amazing. It cuts to the heart of a song and forces it to stand on it's own. That is what sets great songwriting apart from good songwriting and great production.

Whiskey Myers' new single "Dogwood" is one of my favorite songs on their real damn good Early Morning Shakes album released recently. Check out this acoustic version of "Dogwood" here and make sure you grab the new album if you haven't already and make sure you request "Dogwood" at your local TX/Red Dirt radio station.
